Moving home is not a new-voter application

For an enrolled elector who has moved, ECI’s Form 8 includes shifting residence. The official guidelines explain that a shifting request goes to the Electoral Registration Officer for the new address. Do not file a duplicate fresh enrolment simply to correct an existing record.

Form 6 is the new-voter form; Form 8 handles specified existing-record requests. First find your present electoral entry and establish whether you need shifting, correction or only a replacement card.

Choose the correct Form 8 purpose

Form 8 covers shifting residence, correction of electoral-roll entries, replacement EPIC without correction and marking as a person with disability. A replacement card does not automatically change the address or spelling in the underlying electoral roll.

If you have moved from Govandi to another Mumbai locality, use the actual new residence and follow the form’s jurisdiction guidance rather than keeping an outdated address for convenience.

Prepare relevant evidence

• Your existing EPIC number and electoral-roll details.
• The new residential address and relevant constituency information.
• Suitable self-attested address evidence allowed by the current form.
• Evidence for any separate correction you are requesting.
• Your application acknowledgement after submission.

Form 8 allows specified address evidence in the applicant’s name or certain family members’ names under the stated conditions. Read the exact conditions instead of assuming any relative’s document is acceptable. The form also provides an option for a person who has no Aadhaar; Aadhaar should not be described as the only possible basis for applying.

Review before sending

Check spelling, house number and address lines carefully. Select the purpose that matches your situation, and do not assume a card-download request will correct your registration. Keep the reference so you can track the existing request and respond to queries.

Verify the electoral roll afterwards

Submission is not approval. After disposal, check the electoral-roll entry, not just possession of a printed card. Do not rely on an unverified election-linked deadline circulating in messages; check ECI’s current notices for any relevant schedule.
