Choose the correct application first

A first passport application should start with the official Passport Seva service and document advisor, not a generic list forwarded on WhatsApp. Fresh applications, reissue applications, minors and special circumstances can have different requirements. Establish the category before arranging scans or paying for assistance.

If a passport was previously issued, disclose it correctly and check the reissue route. A lost or expired passport should not simply be treated as a first application.

Generate your official checklist

Passport Seva provides an official document-advisor route for fresh applications. Use the answers matching your own circumstances to obtain the relevant instructions. This guide does not claim that one universal Aadhaar-and-photo checklist is sufficient for every adult or child.

Check the current original-document and copy instructions before the appointment. A private shop can help organise material but cannot waive requirements or replace the officer’s scrutiny.

Check consistency before booking

Compare spellings and dates across the documents you intend to use. If records differ, identify the reason and obtain official guidance rather than silently selecting whichever version seems easier. Ensure your present address is stated accurately, especially after a move within Mumbai.

Keep expectations realistic

An appointment is not a passport-issuance guarantee. Verification, officer queries and processing depend on the applicant’s case. Normal and Tatkaal arrangements must be checked against current eligibility and fees; do not assume paying for private assistance makes every case eligible for faster issuance.

Keep account access and receipts yourself. Ask what an assistance quote includes and what government charges are separate.
