EPFO Bank KYC: Employer Approval and Upload Changes

Reviewed on 22 October 2026. The reforms below were announced in April 2025, not October 2026.

What changed in the official process?

A Press Information Bureau release dated 3 April 2025 announced two EPFO simplifications: removal of the requirement to upload a cheque-leaf or attested bank-passbook image while filing online claims, and removal of employer approval for seeding bank-account details with a UAN.

These earlier reforms remain useful when checking an old document list. However, removal of an upload or approval step does not remove bank verification or the need for accurate member particulars. Follow any current case-specific instructions shown by the official service.

Bank details still need verification

The release explains that the account-holder name is verified against member details during bank seeding. Check the account number, IFSC, account-holder name and live verification status. A typo or mismatch should be resolved before expecting a claim to settle.

Use an account you control. Your UAN, Aadhaar and relevant banking records should be reviewed for consistency. Do not assume that an old employer-approval screenshot establishes the current bank-change process.

Preparation checklist

  • Your UAN and access to the official member account.
  • Your Aadhaar and authentication access required by the portal.
  • Correct bank account number, IFSC and account-holder name.
  • The intended claim category and its actual conditions.
  • Documents specifically requested for that category.
  • Previous claim references and rejection reasons.

A passbook can still help you check the bank digits even where its image is no longer a mandatory online-claim attachment. Preparation evidence and required government uploads are different things.

Claim eligibility remains separate

The reforms simplify administration; they do not mean every member may withdraw the entire balance at any time. Select the legitimate claim type and check the conditions for your employment circumstances and purpose. Do not change a claim reason merely to get through a form.

Save the acknowledgement and track the existing claim before submitting again. If rejected, read the actual reason. Uploading unrelated evidence or repeating a pending request does not necessarily resolve the problem.

Use official services safely

EPFO’s June 2025 warning encouraged members to use free official services and avoid unauthorised agents. Never share a password, OTP or unrestricted member-account access. Optional local guidance is not an official EPFO fee, privileged approval channel or guaranteed withdrawal service.

Keep records of the application and any help you request. No private business can promise claim acceptance merely because the bank details appear in your account.
