Child Aadhaar Biometric Update: Fee Waiver Extended

Reviewed on 22 October 2026; announcement: September 2026.
The verified extension
UIDAI’s September 2026 memorandum extends the fee waiver for the first Mandatory Biometric Update, or MBU-1, for children aged 7–15 years. The extension begins on 1 October 2026 and runs through 30 September 2027. It follows the earlier waiver period that ended on 30 September 2026.
The memorandum also describes the standard free mandatory-update age bands of 5–7 and 15–17 years. The extension for MBU-1 should not be read as a waiver for every demographic correction or every update for an adult.
Why an authorised centre is needed
Biometric updating is not a card reprint or a school-document upload. Children’s biometrics change as they grow, and the required update involves attending an authorised Aadhaar enrolment or update centre. A private shop offering document guidance is not automatically authorised to capture Aadhaar biometrics.
Prepare for the visit
- Keep the child’s Aadhaar details or available copy ready.
- Check the date of birth so the centre can establish the correct age band.
- Bring the accompanying parent or guardian’s identification where requested.
- Confirm the centre’s current appointment and supporting-document requirements.
For families in Mumbai, check the official centre location before travelling. If a name, address or birth date also needs correction, explain that separately. Its supporting evidence and charges can differ from the biometric update.
Check the acknowledgement
Review the printed details before leaving and keep the update reference. If a charge is requested, ask which service it covers and whether this waiver applies to your child. Obtain an official receipt rather than accepting a verbal assurance.
Track the request through UIDAI. Capturing biometrics does not establish that unrelated corrections have been approved. Recheck the current notice when booking, particularly if your child is near an age-band boundary.
